These paintings all came from
dreams that I had about the ice.
I've looked at, studied and
painted and drawn glaciers so
often, that it was inevitable that I
would dream of them. But in my
dreams,the colors were more
muted, the lines less sharp edged,
softer somehow, and I was left
with more of an impression of the
ice than the actual details of the
glacier. These paintings are more
of an escape for me than an
actual study in realism. In a way I
prefer them, even though I
continue to paint detailed
portraits of the glaciers.
